Dictionary

FSTA Direct provides browsable and searchable access to definitions of terms included in the IFIS Dictionary of Food Science and Technology. These are available under the Definition link in the Keyword selector and in a separate browsable and searchable Dictionary window.

The Dictionary link is found at the right-hand end of the light blue menu bar.


Click on the link to launch the Dictionary browser window.



To find definitions using the Dictionary browser

1. Start browsing for headwords or terms in one of two ways:
   • Click one of the alphabetical letters at the top.
     This lists all the headwords beginning with the letter you chose.
   • Enter text into the Search box (this is not case-sensitive) and click Find.
     This lists all the headwords that start with your text.

     Example: entering 'apple' returns APPLE BRANDY, APPLE CIDER, ... , APPLES

2. From the list of headwords, click the one you want. This displays the headword together with any narrower, broader and related terms.
3. The meaning of a headword (as defined in the IFIS Dictionary of Food Science and Technology) can be obtained by clicking on the Definition link beside it
4. Links to definitions of other terms in the Dictionary are available in the text of each definition
